2011 Challenges

It seems I've suddenly become addicted to reading challenges. Fortunately, there is a cross over between most of these, so one book can be counted to one or more of these challenges. Here they are - my challenges (ain additional to reading 111 books in 2011) for the year ahead...

A mini challenge


Hosted by LazyGirl Reads, this is a sweet mini challenge to kick off the first few months of the year. It goes from Jan - April 2011, and requires me to read four books, one in each of the following categories:

Hosted by Sooz Says Stuff (among others), this isn't so much a reading challenging as a blogging challenge. All that's required is for me to blog every single day (well, almost every day - rest day is Sunday) throughout the month of April. By the end of the month, I'll have 26 blog entries. Easy as that!
Well, there's a catch. Every new blog entry has to begin with the next letter of the alphabet, hence the A-Z blogging challenge over 26 days!

Given my recent admission that I have yet to read the Harry Potter series, when I came across this challenge, hosted by A Few More Pages, I figured it must be a sign. So, without further ado, I signed up!
This challenge encourages all bookworms alike to read the first book in a series and there are four levels of challenge to choose from:
  • Series Novice: Read 3 books...
  • Series Lover: Read 6 books...
  • Series Expert: Read 12 books...
  • Series Fanatic: Read 20 books...                
            ...that are the first in any series.
    I'm no series fanatic, and I wouldn't be able to call myself a series expert, but I have made it through the Twilight series, I've devoured Philippa Gregory's Wildacre Trilogy, The Bronze Horseman is on my favourites shelf, as is The Tea Rose, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and The No 1 Ladies Detective Agency, so I'm opting for...
    • Series Lover: Read 6 books that are the first in any series

    2. Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone, by J. K. Rowling

    It's certainly not my second challenge, but I couldn't resist this one either. Hosted by our friend from A Few More Pages, this is taking the series challenge one step further... but with a twist. There are two options: to either read a second book in a series, or a second book by an author I've read before. I'm going for the latter.

    Once again, there are four levels to choose from
    • Just a spoonful: Three books
    • A few more bites: Six books
    • A full plate: Twelve books
    • All you can eat: Twenty books (or more!)
    The glutton in me favours the fourth level, "All you can eat", but the calorie counter tells me to think of everything in moderation, so at this early stage I'll start with... A Full Plate (12 books).

    Books to Movies challenge

    2011 is proving to be a bumper year of books and movies: Water for Elephants, The Help, Jane Eyre, Twilight, Harry Potter... the list goes on. Then of course, there are the movies that I've watched but never read the book: PS: I love you, Devil Wears Prada, Pride & Prejudice... yes, Pride & Prejudice - I haven't read it!!!

    So, although at this stage of signing up to yet another challenge I'm not making much headway on the challenges above, I'm determined to see this one through. It's right up my alley!

    The Books to Movies challenge is hosted by Two Bibliomaniacs
    The rules are SIMPLE.  Read a book.  Watch the movie.  Both milestones must be completed in order to receive full marks.  There are 4 levels of participation to choose from. 

    The challenge begins June 1st and will finish December 31st.

    Straight to Video – Read 2 books and view the film adaptations.
    Limited Release – Read 4 books and view the film adaptations.
    Blockbuster – Read 6 books and view the film adaptations.
    Oscar Buzz – Read 8 books and view the film adaptations.
